zd1211 driver for Linux kernel 2.4 and 2.6 [Link] view:755

Zydas1211 wireless USB dongle (11b/g) driver for Linux kernel 2.4 and 2.6

ZyDAS ZD1211 802.11b/g USB WLAN chipset Linux drivers

Initially contributed by ZyDAS under the GPL license, the ZD1211 Linux driver is actively maintained by the open source community.

Legalese: This is an unofficial website that is not affiliated or endorsed by the ZyDAS corporation. Warranty disclaimer.

PLEASE NOTE!!!

As of Linux 2.6.18, the kernel includes a driver for ZD1211 & ZD1211B hardware. This website details a different driver based on a completely different codebase (with the obvious exception of the DriverRewrite page, read on...)

This website is primarily for a community-maintained version of the ZD1211 driver produced by ZyDAS themselves.

As the ZyDAS code does not meet the appropriate styles and standards to be included in the kernel, a driver rewrite project was started, named zd1211rw. zd1211rw is the driver that is now included in the Linux kernel.

Right now, zd1211rw is still in relatively early stages and is not yet ready to replace the community/vendor driver. Various features offered by the community-maintained vendor driver (such as Ad-Hoc connectivity, master mode) are not yet supported (they will come with time). On the other hand, zd1211rw supports the common essentials and should work well enough for users who connect to managed networks which are based on a wireless access point (AP) of some kind. Additionally, zd1211rw is believed to be more stable/reliable.

Details of the zd1211rw driver (including which features are/aren't supported, and installation instructions) can be found on the DriverRewrite page. Please remember that any instructions and information you see everywhere else on this site generally details the community/vendor driver, and probably does not apply to zd1211rw.
